Asteroid to hit Earth like Armageddon?

An asteroid the size of a 25-story building will come within 18,000 miles of Earth on April 13, 2029 -- closer than the communication satellites that orbit the planet, Discovery.com reported.
The asteroid, called Apophis, has only a 1 on in 45,000 chance of colliding with Earth. But it will then be back for another shot seven years after that.

It's hard for astronomers to determine what kind of threat Apophis poses in 2036 because its orbit will be bent by gravity during its 2029 flyby, Discovery reported. During the 2029 visit, the asteroid is expected to be visible to the naked eye at night.
Apophis, which was discovered in 2004, is about 210 to 330 meters, or 690 to 1080 feet, in diameter, according to NASA.

In comparison, the asteroid thought to have wiped out dinosaurs 50 million years ago was 6.2 miles in size. In more recent history, an asteroid that was about 50 meters, or 164 feet, exploded over Siberia, an unpopulated part of Russia, in 1908. It torched or blew down trees in an 800-square mile area, Discovery reported last year.

"As things get bigger, the amount of devastation goes up dramatically," but so does the length of time between occurrences, Nick Kaiser, the lead scientist of a new University of Hawaii asteroid-hunting project, told Discovery.

A half-mile diameter object hitting Earth would be likely to cause a global catastrophe, Kaiser said. But events like that happen only every couple of million years.
This object is predicted to come historically close, about a 1 in 800 year event, NASA said.
Scientists expect to know more detail about Apophis' future orbits in 2013 and 2021, when the asteroid will come within 9 million miles of Earth. That will put it close enough for radar studies.

Michigan Man Who Fathered 14 Kids With Different Women Owes $530G in Child Support

FLINT, Mich. — Authorities in Michigan say a man fathered 14 children with different women and owes more than $530,000 in unpaid child support.

The Flint Journal reports 42-year-old Thomas Frazier was jailed Thursday. Court records say he owes six years of support payments.

The newspaper says the unemployed man could be held for 90 days if he doesn't pay $27,900.
Frazier says he thinks he fathered only three of the children and that it's unrealistic for authorities to expect him to pay child support that was $3,000 a month at one point.
Frazier remains held at the Genesee County Jail. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer who could speak for him.

Mom, infant killed by Tennessee tornado

A mother and her infant were killed by a tornado that hit Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on Friday, a family member told CNN. About 36 people were injured, at least two of them critically, officials said. Early Saturday, officials said about 250 homes had been damaged or destroyed.

Kori Bryant was home with her daughter, Olivia, when the tornado struck, said family member Mark McClure. Another family member, who found the mother and daughter after the tornado, said attempts were made to resuscitate the infant but she couldn't be saved, according to McClure. The woman's husband, John Bryant, was found about two houses away, McClure said. His back and ribs were broken, and a lung had collapsed. He was to undergo surgery. The bad weather began about noon when a band of severe thunderstorms swept across the state from the southwest, said Donnie Smith, a public information officer with the Tennessee Department of Emergency Management in Nashville. Just before 1:40 p.m., the tornado hit Murfreesboro in Rutherford County, 30 miles southeast of Nashville, he said. Thirty-six people were treated for tornado-related injuries at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, said hospital spokeswoman Martha Tolbert.

Dad Destroys Daughter's Cell Phone With Hammer; $4,756.25, 10,000 Texts

13-year-old Cheyenne resident Dena Christoffersen managed to send 10,000 text messages in the span of a month, leaving her father with a bill for $4,756.25 due to a lack of a texting plan and the belief that it was not able to send them at all.

"It just hit us like a rock, like you're stepping into a bus," said father Gregg. "She went from A's and B's one semester to F's in two months." Soon after he got the bill he smashed her phone with a hammer. Dena is also grounded until school ends.

"I felt really bad, and I have learned my lesson." An improvement in her grades has occurred since the texting stopped. Verizon knocked down the bill which is now more reasonable. Her parents want to see a crackdown by the school on cell phone use.

Deaths confirmed at N.Y. hostage-taking

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Several people were killed Friday when a gunman walked into an immigrant services center and opened fire, Gov. David Paterson said.
"I speak for all of New York when I offer my prayers for the victims and families of this tragedy," Paterson said hours after the gunman shot several people and took dozens hostage.
NBC's Pete Williams cited city and state officials as saying that as many 13 people might have been killed.

Juelz Santana Live In New Haven

Juelz Santana (The Diplomats aka Dipset) tore it up this past weekend at 5 Senses Nightclub located 212 Crown Street Downtown New Haven. He strolled in the club at about 1am and this was a site to see with an unusually large entourage about 50 people deep. There was a large eruption from the crowd when he walked in the room with what seemed to be the never ending line of people through the special VIP Entrance that all celebrities enter the club through. Originally planned he was only suppose to host and do a couple shout outs to the crowd on the microphone but in the middle of feeling the energy from everyone in the room he starting off and dropped 5 songs for the crowd including “I’m Back”, “There it go”, “Pop Champagne”, “Oh yes” and “Clockwork”. The Return of Ben Affleck

The Return of Ben Affleck! Making his way back onto the big screen as one of 8 (yes that’s right 8) leading characters in the movie “He’s Just Not That into You” and one of 4 in the upcoming release called “State of Play” cross screen of Russell Crowe (American Gangster, Body of Lies) and Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Wedding Crashers) About a young politician caught up in a murder scandal. After the huge disappointment in box-office numbers in the release of Gigli (2003) Ben Affleck has fallen off the Hollywood scene and the most action this guy has seen was in a 2008 Movie called “Role Models” where one of the main jokes of the movie is a guy being white and his nickname being Ben Affleck. He was once at the top of every world news tabloid and suddenly stumbled all the way down to the bottom. I’m not going to lie; I have always been a huge Ben Affleck fan but is this too late? Has he hit his peak? Can he ever headline a movie again? I will tell you this; I can’t wait to see his new movie. Only time will tell.

I Love You, Man - Movie Review - MS

In this outrageous comedy about a man (Paul Rudd) who has always had girlfriends growing up and never that guy friend in his life, the time has come to plan a wedding but with no best man or wedding party. Newcomer on to the Hollywood scene (Jason Segal) who has most recently hit the big screen in (Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up) Stars as the new found friend. Movie has a good story line and the script does not fall short on laughs. Perfect movie to see on a date.

The Last House On The Left - Movie Review - MS

So this past weekend I went to go see this movie Last house on the left which is a remake of the (1972) movie with the same name. It is completely different from the original from the way it ends all the way to the story line so it was good to see even if you have heard about the original one. Wes Craven (Scream, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Hills Have Eyes) was brought in to be a producer after writing the original one so once this guy’s name became tagged with the movie it became the talk across the nation with anticipation of the movie to open. A few people in my theater left before it ended, so if you feel sick or faintful, just keep repeating to yourself: it's only a movie, it's only a movie, and it’s only a movie. Overall the movie was surprisingly good and entertaining but a bit graphic. If you have a young daughter or any children for that matter be prepared for some disturbing moments but as I stated earlier remember, It is only a movie and this is not based on any true story.
